Travel Media Network News

NEW YORK- NEW YORK! What's new in New York? We just spent a long weekend being tourists in the Big Apple. Next week, we'll tell what's changed.

TOURISM IS DOWN UP IN CANADA

Canadian Tourism reps have been crying in their Labatt's Blues over the downturn in tourism. Travelers are avoiding Canada for several reasons. (1) They  don't know it's there. (2) Canadian Tourism hasn't demonstrated to their nearest and best customer, namely the USA, what is unique about Canada. (It looks the same as home). (3) In spite of a dollar at par, everything costs dramatically more in Canada, especially fuel. and (4) an unimaginative marketing plan designed to impress the folks at home.  (5) Most the ad dollars are spent in US major markets rather than middle America. (If I live in Detroit, why would I want to visit another city, like Toronto...maybe Montreal, but not Toronto. The same pretty TV ads simply don't work. The internet and word-of-mouth works. Hey Ontario Tourism announced that they want your suggestion, but they don't. It's simply a ploy to placate the starving tourism industry.

Internet overtaking outdoor, radio
The Internet will overtake worldwide outdoor ad spending next year, and will catch up with radio in 2008 revised the internet forecasts upwards again as it has continued to exceed expectations. Tied closely to the internet is a marketing gimmick that worked thousands of years ago...word-of-mouth. People tell people. It works great amazingly well.

BE CAREFUL (Check in before 6 PM?...No!)

Be cautious when you book hotels online from portals such as Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz and others. If you have to cancel your hotel due to an emergency, you may end up paying the full price anyway.  Read the fine print. Even canceling three days in advance may not save you from losing your money.

TIRED OF FLIGHT DELAYS? (Me Too!)

Fresh from a night of sleeping on an airport chair and standing in line for SEVEN hours, I present a web site that might help you avoid such a painful experience. Before you fly, check out the list of the worst airports for delays and the worst airlines. You may not have a choice, but.....          Here

 LOT FULL?  FIND AIRPORT PARKING
More than a fourth of retirees make 50,000K+
A recent report from The Media Audit shows the number of retirees in the 87 metro markets surveyed regularly, with household incomes of 50,000 or more, increased from 23.2% to 27.6% from 2003 thru 2006. Ad agencies haven't discovered this yet. (maybe never will)  More

TRAVEL TO COLOMBIA - THE RISKS

You've have undoubtedly heard and seen the stories of poverty, drug lords, guerillas and kidnappings and general violence in movies and in the media. Yes, there is a risk in traveling to Colombia, SA...you risk falling in love and not wanting to come home.                                                                                     CLICK

WHAT'S UP DOWN SOUTH?

EXCUSE ME...THAT'S MY SEAT!

When you fly are you concerned about where you might be seated? Do you want to avoid sitting over the wing? Hate to sit in the rear of the plane. Want to sit sit at or near an emergency exit. no matter which aircraft find the perfect seat for you at at       Seat Guru.

PEARSON in Toronto...the most confusing airport in the world?

Misleading signage. Upon complaining about lack of sensible signage, an airport employee actually said, "we have too many signs". There are only two Terminals but There is a Terminal 3. Signs only indicate "Terminal" but don't indicate which one!

The parking space numbers are the same on each level. You better remember your level or you will be searching for your car for a long long time. No live people at the parking lot exits. If you don't notice that you have to pay and get a ticket inside, you could have an ugly situation outside and very unfriendly people.

Y'ALL COME!

Take it from someone who lived in Tennessee. The Grand Ole Opry and Graceland are a must-see but there's more to see in Tennessee than country music and Elvis.(ok the stuff Elvis left behind)  From the Smokey Mountains to the rich history of Middle Tennessee to the historic Peabody, this is the mid-south's most diverse state. Nashville is more than just Music City USA and there's more in Chattanooga than the Choo-Choo. In Memphis, you have to check out Beale Street and the dry ribs. Don't forget Famous Amos cookies.

Iona Farm? Say it out loud. So maybe you don't own a farm but you can visit an authentic small Scottish farm and village in Nova Scotia. For the Latin-challenged, Nova Scotia means "New Scotland". Nowhere is the Scottish heritage more evident than on Cape Breton Island and in the small village of Iona at the Highland Village Museum. Stroll through a time capsule that starts with the first settlers in this community that looks very much like it's namesake in Scotland. By the way, the view is without exaggeration, breathtaking.                                             MORE
